Saybrook Township Receives $50,000 Grant from Ohio Department of Development to Modernize Zoning Code
Saybrook Township, Ohio — The Saybrook Township Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that the township has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development. The funding will be used to update and modernize Saybrook Township’s current zoning text, which has been in place since 1987.
The funding comes from the new Housing Technical Assistance Program, which provides grant funding to support local governments in their efforts to upgrade zoning codes and processes in their communities.
“Zoning regulations can shape the future of a community for better or worse,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “By helping our local partners modernize these policies, we’re giving them the tools to attract investment, remove barriers to housing, and support long-term growth that fits the needs of their residents.”
“This is a significant step forward for the township,” said Trustee Dan Claypool. “Our zoning regulations have served us well for nearly four decades, but it's time they reflect the growth, values, and goals of today’s Saybrook. This grant gives us the tools to do that responsibly and effectively.”
The newly developed Saybrook Township Comprehensive Plan addresses land use planning, residential and commercial development, and long-term community priorities, including environmental protection, economic opportunity, and quality of life. Trustee Dan Claypool expressed his appreciation to the dedicated Saybrook Township residents and Verdantas Corporation for their planning support, input, and a comprehensive review of current and future needs. This plan will be used to guide us through the zoning process.
“We’re grateful to the Ohio Department of Development for recognizing the importance of proactive planning in growing communities like ours,” Claypool added. “We’re committed to ensuring Saybrook’s zoning reflects the needs of our residents while supporting smart and sustainable development.”
The township plans to begin the update process this summer, with opportunities for public engagement.
